Cycling in Belize

Some are surprised to learn that competitive cycling is quite popular in Belize. Of course everyone sees the common bike uses found all over Central America for transportation. Seeing a father with two or more of his kids all somehow balanced and seated on a single bike will always impress and put a smile on your face.

The Belize Cycling Federation puts on numerous events some for Belizeans only and others for any international competitors as well. Even when there are no competitions you will often see a truck or two following a crew of cyclists who are training on the highways of the country. For those more inclined for a leisurely experience many tourists bike through Belize from Mexico or Guatemala. Belize is a mandatory stop for a cycling tour of Central America to experience the unique blend of Caribbean and Central American cultures. Of course visiting during the dry season on a biking trip will make it much more comfortable.
